15:44 i want to clarify in this part that the protestant reform didn't affect Spain; because the Catholic Kings made lots of efforts to reform the church in our country, decades before Martin Luther came with his protest, and overall our Queen was a pioneer of her time. Not so revolutionary over here. For the Spanish inquisition, i take that it's part of the anglo culture, but nothing to do with reality😆

surströmming isn't the stinkiest food in europe. Hákarl is the stinkiest food in europe, it's made from a fish that has no kidneys, so it's full of urea and other toxic stuff that smells like a chamber pot that hasn't been emptied in weeks. it's left buried under gravel to rot for months and then dried before it becomes safe for human consumption and even then consuming too much can cause diarrhoea.

Wow that Scandinavian section was so disappointing. To my knowledge as a Dane it's literally only the swedes that eat Surströmming. Also in a video trying to explain stereotypes and how Italy, Spain and Portugal has a similar stereotype, then deciding to put 5 countries under a single umbrella that only counts 2-3 countries is honestly kinda shameful. Anyway i can complain all day, great video as always Terry 😁

Stereotypes are stereotypes, and there is good and bad ones! In anycase those is often made by people that dont live there or even visit! In anyway lets talk about Scandinavia, and the nordics, becuse Finland and Iceland is not part of Scandinavia! However, we supose to be the happyest populations on earth.. its others that say that! Its rather this.. we are one of the richest populations per capita, low density, free education and for the moste part a trustworty political system with low coruption! Another thing.. we are ancestors of the Vikings, we know how survive our climate and make the best out of it!

About Luther and his gas, I've read that the devil would come to him in his sleep to debate with him, and one of his methods of getting rid of the devil was turning in his bed, and passing gas on the devil, which supposedly worked. I just hope his wife wasn't on that side of the bed!

I personally think FDR is the most important president to date then probably JFK then Abraham Lincoln. But my question for you Mr Terry is in your opinion if it wasn't for the Nazis and the second world war would FDR have been elected? And within those same terms (if it weren't for the war and the Nazis) do you think the Americans and others would have emerged from the great depression as soon as they did or would it have gone on longer? I ask because I personally believe that the Nazis and the war REALLY kicked many countries in the ass and allowed them to find something to get them out of the depression economically in thousands of not millions of jobs in making war machines and learning to use them to fight.

Vitamin D is on the list of antidepressants. We eat a lot of vitamin D, during the dark winter. So we are not more depressed, we just take care of our health, unlike this American.

According to some now retired military that were junior staff officer's under Giap, we(US and allies) were at most 6 weeks from an unconditional surrender by the north(nva) and the VC were in total collapse, at the time that Cronkite gave his opinion on the war which led to us stopping the bombing of the North. This allowed the NVA to recover and rebuild thier forces. Believe the show that this was from was on PBS some years ago.

16:42 as a swede I'd say that most people who do smell it for the first time are not overreacting. If you haven't grown up with the smell or the food then it's going to be really hard to even be near the smell and not gag. What's even harder would be getting yourself through the mental and eat it (it doesnt taste like it smells, mostly just tastes like salt which goes well with the things you have it with ) It's mainly only really eaten up here in the middle and northern parts of sweden which is where I live so I've grown up with the tradition and smell. I actually ate it a few days ago as this years first.

I can tell you from my personal point of view, I would have been much more personally devastated. I remember that day. It was surreal and I was angry. The thing is, there are really no other buildings in this country that really truly represented our nation in my mind. So it just would have been that much more devastating emotionally. I agree though, I can’t think of a difference that there would have been in the response.

This game company explained their decision to feature a Black samurai by saying, 'We cannot understand the Japanese sensibility. Therefore, we chose someone with a sensibility closer to ours (foreigners).' This is terrible. Are we some kind of abnormal beings? Is Japan perceived as an abnormal, unconventional, and incomprehensible nation by the world? While they are careful about issues related to color and gender, this is ethnic discrimination. This is true racism. I was a fan of this game series. I never expected to hear from that game company, 'You are an abnormal existence.' Enjoy "Assassin's Creed: Africa," everyone.

The Dutch stereotypes also come from the British. It had to do with their trading rivalry during the Dutch colonial era. They have a similar issue with Belgium, which is where that joke comes from if you've watched, read or listened to some version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

5:15 My first thought was the Dutch. Never met any Dutch person who was smug in any way. Honestly, I'd put Scandinavians in there, too but feel like I haven't met enough of them (although those couple dozen were all nice people). Definitely not us Germans. I'd say we put up similar appearances to the Dutch but deep down, we still think we know better, whatever the topic may be ^^ We're the country of know-it-alls, it's in our blood. 5:35 I mean... he's not wrong about the German from a fever dream. I managed to read and understand all of that, except one word and the abbreviation. That's kinda funny, I don't know Dutch at all. And yes, while English speakers often think Dutch sounds harsh, we Germans basically see JarJar, everytime we hear it. That being said, that's probably bc it is partially intelligible to us. 7:40 I always find these funny. Whenever these videos go "the [insert name of Germanic populace] have a word for this", I go yeah, so do we. And I bet so do most Germanic languages. I can read and translate that just fine, it's discussability. I never get why people have these long winded explanations when they could just translate the word. It's self-explanatory. Discussability. You can talk about it. I feel like it makes these concepts feel more foreign than they really are. Or maybe I just feel like this because the word usually comes from a neighbouring country ^^

Surströmming is basically just an extreme food which very few people actually enjoy. The normal "pickled herring" (in many different versions) is much more popular - and is a much better picture of what people actually eat in Scandinavia which other people consider "weird". Also - I've NEVER seen anyone eat Surströmming on its own. It's basically more of a condiment than a main ingredient in every version I've seen/tried. Best advice: ALWAYS open it in a water bath - and NEVER eat it on its own but rather pair it with bread, mayo, onions, chives, eggs and a slew of other stuff.
